On March 17, 2025, Munich experienced a unique football evening. The “Beckenbauer Cup” took place at the SAP Garden — a legends tournament held as part of FC Bayern’s 125th anniversary. The arena was sold out with 9,500 spectators, and the atmosphere was electrifying. On the court were not today’s professionals, but heroes of yesterday. Legends of FC Bayern faced great names from around the world: Real Madrid, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Ajax Amsterdam, and VfB Stuttgart sent their icons to pay tribute to the Kaiser.

The tournament was played in a five-a-side format — fast, technical, and full of flair. The Bayern legends in particular made the fans cheer: Arjen Robben enchanted the crowd with his incomparable left foot, Giovane Élber scored twice in the final, and Franck Ribéry and Bastian Schweinsteiger once again brought back the feeling of the golden years. In the final against Real Madrid, the Munich side won 4–0. In the end, it wasn’t just about football: €75,000 was donated to the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation. The tournament was a tribute to the Kaiser and a sign that Franz will forever remain a part of FC Bayern and its fans.
