Franz Beckenbauer Supercup 2025 in Stuttgart
In 2025, the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup was held for the first time in honor of the Kaiser. Since then, the traditional duel between league champion and cup winner has borne his name as a symbol of his incomparable importance to German football.

In the summer of 2025, the German Supercup was officially renamed the “Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.” From now on, the first title of the season will be inseparably linked with Franz Beckenbauer — as a symbol of continuity and a tribute to his life’s work.
On August 16, 2025, VfB Stuttgart (2025 DFB Cup winners) faced FC Bayern Munich (2025 Bundesliga champions) for the newly named trophy. The match was played at the MHPArena in Stuttgart in front of about 60,000 spectators.

Before the match, Joel Beckenbauer carried the newly created Franz Beckenbauer Supercup trophy into the arena. Symbolically, he placed it next to the Meisterschale and the DFB Cup: three symbols of German football that would not carry the same meaning without Franz.
Bayern claimed the first title of the season with a 2–1 victory. After the final whistle, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany emphasized the symbolic value of the success: “For a club, every title is important — and this one now bears the name of the Kaiser.”

As part of the first Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation also marked an important milestone: the joint initiative “Gute Freunde Förderfonds” with the DFL Foundation was presented. Before kick-off in Stuttgart, Heidi Beckenbauer (board member of the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation), Rudi Völler (ambassador of the foundation), and Franziska Fey (chairwoman of the DFL Foundation) explained the background: the goal is to make it easier especially for young people with disabilities to access sport and physical activity.
