Born in Munich on September 11, 1945, Franz would have celebrated his 80th birthday on September 11. But the emperor's legacy remains. Fans all over the world carry him in their hearts and honor his unique life's work.
Since May 2025, the Allianz Arena has been located at Franz-Beckenbauer-Platz 5. An homage to his legendary number and to his life's work for FC Bayern. The back number is no longer given by FC Bayern and remains a visible sign as an oversized Beckenbauer jersey under the stadium roof.
A lasting place of remembrance is also growing around the stadium. After Gerd Müller, the Beckenbauer Memorial is also being built there. Since 2025, the German Super Cup has also been called Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup.
With this website, we are making another contribution to the culture of remembrance. The life of the emperor is discussed and recorded in over 40 stories. Fans can also become part of the culture of remembrance with personal fan letters and continue Franz' legacy. The result is a digital memory album that is constantly filling up.
Dear Franz, if you're reading this: Happy birthday! Thank you for your size on the pitch, your successes, your unforgettable moments. For redefining soccer. For allowing millions to look up to you — as a player, as a captain, as a person. You have shaped soccer.
